Ronnie James Dio, a heavy metal singer who is usually credited for popularizing the “devil’s horns” hand sign (see photo above) died yesterday aged 67. His wife, Wendy Galaxiola released this statement to Blabbermouth.net:

“Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. ”
It was 1979 when Dio replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath and soon after joining he started using the hand sign that his italian grandmother used to ward off malocchio (evil eye).
The rest, as they say, is history.
